5 Questions Series with Irene Hoofs of Bloesem

Wherein we ask our favorite design bloggers, curators and forecasters what inspires them.

We’ve already told you how much we love Irene Hoofs’ design blog Bloesum. Her ideas for living and leisure, “for the love of handmade” and “soul-soothing interiors” are always streamlined, simple and – above all else – inspirational. It should come as no surprise, then, that her own interior is infused with that same airy elegance.

Here are Irene’s answers to our fabulous five.

What’s on your coffee table?

I don’t really have an actual coffee table, but have multiple places in the house that double as coffee table, I guess. There you’ll see books and magazines, mainly about photography and interior design and picture books for children.

What object are you currently lusting after and what would you do with it?

Ahhh, I have been looking to buy a new rug for under our dining table. The one we have now is completely worn out and actually is starting to look quite horrible.

What’s your favorite object and how did you find it?

Currently, I am in love with my new Vintage Pollo Vase by Tapio Wirkkala, given to me by a dear friend for my birthday. She knew I had a big crush on it because I had mentioned it several times on my blog. When she saw it in an Etsy shop, she bought it for me. I find that super sweet and thoughtful.

What’s the story behind your favorite photograph, and how did you choose to frame it?

I used to work for a photography-agency in Amsterdam. At that time I bought a picture from Anna Tiedink. it is rather unusual – people often make remarks about it when entering our living room. They are not sure whether to like or not. I love it and it has moved with us to all the different houses we have lived in since. Another picture I love is the a picture of my two sons shot by Marjon Hoogervorst and I had it framed. Well – not actually framed, but printed via a new kind of framing called ixxi. (It’s a company based in the Netherlands.)

What is the most awkward, wayward object in your home?

Hmmm… I can’t really think of one, sorry!
