You mention the air quality in California's Central Valley. On a recent road trip we passed through the I-5 agricultural corridor and Bakersfield. And yeah, there's this dirty haze in the air, the soil is completely dead dirt, and it's just barren and depressing. How can they grow anything there? 100% addiction to chemicals. To think that "food" can come out of that environment is highly unappetizing. Not to mention thinking of all the people living there, every day, around suffering feedlot cows and chemically-grown plants. Definitely not the vibrant garden image we want when we sit to eat our salads.
