Is Mineral Makeup Really Healthy?

-

Because of our current desire for healthier skincare and beauty options, mineral makeup has become all the rage. But what are these minerals and how are they different from conventional makeup, which uses minerals too?

The difference is that pure mineral makeup does not use the oils, chemical fillers or synthetic colors needed in conventional makeup. That’s why mineral makeup can be great for women with sensitive or acne-prone skin. One of the most commonly used base minerals, zinc oxide, has both anti-inflammatory and anti-microbial properties.

Many women prefer the softer, lighter feeling of brushing loose powder over the face rather than using a thick, gloppy foundation. But mineral makeup is not for everybody; you are always your own best judge. Every woman’s skin is different and I would recommend testing different options out at the makeup counter and then noticing what feels and looks best on you. Often, a high quality moisturizer and sunscreen, made of non-toxic, organic ingredients, is enough to make skin look its best.
