I’m knocked out by the sculptural headpieces crafted by ultra-mod designer Mary Ann Williams of Illu-stration.
The minute I saw this fanciful wire mesh accessory I knew Williams had something to say both about sustainable fabric and fashion as a 3D art form.
The hand-formed felt hat painted gold and copper is a contemporary take on the veiled designs of the Forties and Fifties. Williams constructs her hats with the same eco-friendly washable and biodegradable felt used to sew her line of unforgettable rugs (see my earlier post on these luscious flokati pieces).
A little more wacky, more Clockwork Orange, are her felt hats emergent with architectural spikes of either paper, metal, wood or synthetics.
I’m not sure if I would don one (a bit too ancient future) but they would be striking as props in the fashion forward dressing room or retail store. Investigate this award-winning, pro-planet designer at Illu-stration.
