Pioneering Luxury with Osklen

-

Brazillian designer Oskar Metsavaht is riding the leading wave in the world of eco-luxury with his Osklen brand.

His environmental thinking is embodied in stunning collections inspired by Brazillian beachwear, Tahitian motifs and a marvelous range of fabrics, from high-tech threads to pupunha wood for belts and otherwise discarded fish skin for shoes. The 2008 collections are diverse in their looks (from architectural tucks and gathers to vibrant rainbow washes to constructed mini cocktail dresses and more) yet united in concept and texture.

He also founded the e-institute in Rio de Janeiro, an organization dedicated to researching sustainable futures for Brazil.

Osklen is now ranked as one of the world’s most influential designers, a status we endorse given the company’s grassroots involvement in the promotion of alternative, green textiles.

Osklen’s obsession? Exploring the interface between vibrant urban cultures and nature, while establishing industry-wide standards for organic, and extending the reach of luxury to include. . . and require, green practices.
