Raffia Clutch Adds Artisan Chic to Your Weekend Look

-
After five straight days of lugging around the eco-friendly grocery bag, the laptop tote, the latest magazines, myriad notepads and other giveaways of editorial geek, I love paring things down on the weekend.

I slip my Blackberry and a debit card into a vest pocket or, if I can muster the requisite motivation for lip gloss, I reach for my lemon yellow vintage leather clutch. Walking to coffee with my alternative clutch option – a 20" rectangle of patent white vegan-croc  – is not something I’m going to try, so I was happy to find this new artisan raffia foldover. It was a fall item, so it’s on sale (!) for $30, but I think it’s perfect for the current floral and safari looks. It’s difficult to find clutches that aren’t encrusted for evening, so I’m snapping this little number up today.

Unlike some frightening bedazzled poodle I could discuss, this clutch actually makes the world a better place. Available on Nest, a purveyor of products with good causes behind them, the bag is brought to us by Mad Imports. Mad works with women in places like Madagascar and Kenya, focusing on community development and education. Fair trade, eco-friendly and sweatshop free.

I know! I have been lusting after raffia since YSL’s uber-expensive raffia belt – I love this affordable little fair trade find! :)

    Looks great.

Alas that there isn’t a blokey equivalent. (A raffia daysack?)
