Tasty, high in protein, low-fat, and inexpensive. For years, tuna was a top choice for a healthy meal. Then came news of fishermen catching (and killing) dolphins in their nets, and excessive mercury being ingested into our bodies.

Thanks to organizations like The Marine Stewdship Council which recognizes and rewards sustainable fishing and the American Albacore Fishing Association, a non-profit representing commercial pole and troll vessels and responsible fishery practices, we can all feel a little better eating the once-loved staple.

While they cannot promise that your next Spicy Tuna roll, Grilled Tuna Steak with Wasabi Aioli, or Tuna Melt sandwich will be metal free, they have endorsed companies like American Tuna and compiled a database pointing you to where their certified products can be found. Pick up a can and try Tuna Pockets, a recipe from the Mayo Clinic that packs 15 grams of protein, 15 milligrams of calcium and 4 grams of fiber, all for just 199 calories.
