Robin Hood Wood

-

Is Robin Hood a green icon? Not really – in fact, since it appears he’d take money off pretty much anyone, Robin Hood is capitalism in tights. But his forest-dwelling, poor-championing romantic image endures (take the latest film, for example) – and now it’s inspired a new range of sustainable furniture.

Sutherland’s Robinwood Deluxe is created from renewable teak and polished aluminum – and good job too, because most of the range is for outdoor use and both these materials are tough enough to withstand the most harsh weather. Being English, I’m accustomed to a faux-‘Hood syle that’s all knotted, warped planking and tarnished iron; refreshingly, designer Philippe Starck has opted for clean, evenly-spaced lines softened with long curves. Transplant Sherwood Forest into medieval Japan, and here’s the calming result. If you think Sutherland has hit the mark, you can make inquiries here.
