Sheryl Crow Greens Tour and Dishes Out Free Albums

-

Although she’s probably way further from her childhood home than 100 miles most of the time, Sheryl Crow wants to bring us into the fold of her life with her seventh studio set, appropriately called 100 Miles From Memphis, out today on A&M Records.

Her connection to community and environment living in rural Kennett, Missouri could be part of the inspiration behind some of the more Stax Record, Delaney and Bonnie inspired songs like “Summer Day” and “It’s a Desperate Situation,” but it could just be that Crow was ready to get more nitty-gritty with her music.

“I grew up in a small town 100 miles from Memphis, and that informed not only my musical taste, but how I look at life,” she says. “The drive to Memphis is all farmland, and everyone is community-oriented, God-fearing people, connected to the earth. The music that came out of that part of the world is a part of who I am, and it’s the biggest inspiration for what I do and why I do it.”

Greening-up is nothing new to Crow. As founding member Reverb’s Green Music Group, which includes Bonnie Raitt, Dave Matthews Band, Maroon 5, Guster, Linkin Park and Barenaked Ladies, Crow has been a force to be reckoned with in the music community when it comes to taking action on behalf of the environment.

Portland, Maine based Reverb is a non-profit group that has helped green over 91 tours by helping “Musicians go green while engaging fans to do the same.”

Reverb will connect Crow with many green options for this tour including:
