They coordinate with your bathroom, are super handy and heck, you can design your own. Seriously, who doesn’t want to honor their wedding memories by personalizing a Kleenex® canister?

But while these dispensers are crazy fun to look at, they do not have us blowing in the right direction: towards sustainability.

Joining the seduction is the new, highly decorative Clorox® Disinfecting Wipes part of a “Redesign Clean” campaign, which introduces seven new floral and geometric prints that almost pass for green. They are billed by our beloved Clorox as the “quick and easy way to disinfect anytime and anywhere in a range of décor canisters made to complement your home.”

That’s right, ladies, just flip, pull, wipe, and discard in your trash. Hey, they were pretty for a week while they lasted. The national television ad makes it so appealing.

Nowhere in the marketing highlights does Clorox boast reusing these oval objects by purchasing wipe refills. Even if you could, they wouldn’t last beyond several rounds. The same goes for the Kleenex® Expressions containers.

Anyway, how many consumers would save these and reuse them? I doubt very many. I also wonder about the benefit of designing your own boxes, as both Kleenex® and Clorox® hope you will do? Creative outlet for their loyal market? I think it’s more a marketing strategy to rope you in any way they can.

Do the planet a favor and buy reusable tissue boxes and wipe dispensers that will endure the years of colds, tears, and stubborn household germs. That’s the responsible way to wipe and clean at home.
