Here are some reasons why you’ve gotta get on entering this giveaway…

Daniel Silverstein is a New York-based clothing designer and manufacturer and a believer in using zero-waste apparel. His label is sold in boutiques and specialty stores around the world. Most recently, Silverstein’s clothing has been at Oak and Yoox.com. Also: Silverstein is launching Schone Bride’s (Brooklyn, New York) first wedding collection. Entertainers, such as Kristen Bell, Jennifer Hudson, Amber Valletta, Yael Stone, Alysia Reiner, Yolanda Ross, and more, have worn Silverstein’s pieces at red carpet events and on magazine covers across the United States and England.

ZWD is a modern collection that contains zero waste staples. It includes unisex tanks, tee-shirts, sweatshirts, and joggers for the city- and city-minded environmentalist.

Everything under the ZWD label is created with 100-percent post-consumer cutting room waste, so, the collection keeps fabric from ending up in landfills (and you from looking like a fashion-bitch).

Each piece in Silverstein’s new collection is uniquely crafted from tiles of high-quality materials, such as 100-percent organic cotton, that come together to bring new life to what would otherwise go into the trash.

Ordinarily, when fabric is cut out to make clothes, 15 to 20 percent of it is thrown away. This year alone, more than 21 billion (yes, billion) pounds of fabric will head to landfills. Partnering with forward-thinking factories and designers across the country, ZWD is using these pieces to create a new approach to sustainable fashion and put a stop to this wasteful practice.

Silverstein also is always coming out with new designs, as well as a number of other incredibly beautiful, unique clothing lines that include little black dresses, wedding dresses, and made-to-order items. I mean, just look how awesome this ZWD David Bowie tribute sweater is.

These days, lots of companies are trying to do their best to be eco-conscious, “green,” and sustainable. But there are so many factors, components, and priorities to weigh when trying to ultimately decide what the best options are, or just how sustainable a product really is.

While we may not know the answer to what truly makes sustainable fashion, we know one thing for certain — less waste is better fashion. Also, higher productivity of raw materials means less stress on the environment. And by absorbing cutting room waste from other brands that work with high-quality and responsible materials, ZWD and Silverstein are helping everyone do their part.
