The True Tree Hugger: Making Paper from Recycled Cotton

Though computers are helping to move us toward a paperless world, we’re not quite there. Seeing room for progress, one resourceful artisan from the village of Sanganer in India embraces a green alternative that leaves our forests untouched. Employing a method inherited from his elders, Wasim and his fellow artisans create elaborate journals, albums and social stationary using eco-friendly paper that’s made from recycled cotton rags.
And, their commitment to Mother Nature doesn’t stop there. The leather they use to bind their crafts is cruelty-free, originating from animals that die due to natural causes. Adorned with a variety of Western symbols, their handmade products, such as the Falling Flower and Life Comes to Leather journals, can be found at Handmade Expressions.
