This One's a Real Sleeper!

-

Is there anything less welcoming than a guest room haunted by a lumpy, off-gassing sofa bed? My sister-in-law adds insult to insomnia with nubby olive green electric blankets (the embedded cord torments me at night) and rough, wrinkled sheets. Why not just post a do-disturb placard on the door?

I believe a guest room should be as inviting as a beautiful hotel room, with fine linens and comfortable furnishings. I like to cut fresh flowers, plate some scones, and even go so far as to hunt down a photo of the guest to frame and display for the weekend. But it’s really all about the bed.

For clients with space limitations who opt for convertible sofas over full-size beds, I found two real sleepers from Viesso, a favorite company of Kim’s that is committed to green materials and production.

Both the Gente Pullout ($2016 – $2225) with recycled stainless steel legs and the sleek Rio ( $1604 – $1890), mix clean modern lines with upscale natural fabrics (including Knoll) and include Airdream mattresses with air-over-engineering. Once the mattress is pulled out, the top layer inflates in 30 seconds and goes over a spring mattress below. I love the support and the style not found in most sofa beds! They’re pretty enough for the upscale living room.

Viesso’s recipe always calls for recycled and natural fibers, recycled springs, FSC certified alder and bamboo for frames and water-based glues and stains. Just add luxury organic cotton bedding and shake (never stir) to cook up the green guest room everyone (including choosy grandmas) will savor.
