Whole Foods Market to Carry 'My Corset' Women's Eco Fashions

You're either a dress girl or you're not, and I'm a dress girl, having counted more than 27 dresses in my closet (I know, I know). I hit rock bottom last month while outfitting myself for a school gala by spending four hours at Neiman's in a dressing room trying on hundreds of dresses. True, I ended up with an amazing canary yellow Alice & Olivia 1960's chiffon halter, but somehow forgot to buy groceries. That's addiction for you. But women like me will soon be able to pick up dinner while shopping for dresses, now that the eco-chic fashions of designer Rene Geneva are coming to Whole Foods Market.

"Whole Foods has really been expanding its variety of retail clothing," says Nicole Hommertzheim of Geneva's company. "We won't be selling our corsets there but you will be seeing lots of dresses, which fit our direction of making flattering pieces for women."

I love Rene's line of corsets, but agree, they might not be at home at Whole Foods. "Go over and get us some animal cookies, sweetie, while Mommy tries on some suggestive boudoir pieces over by the vitamins."

According to Hommertzheim, Rene is also teaming with the Whole Planet Foundation to develop a women's sewing co-op in Nicaragua to make eco-wear. I do love the fact that the Austin, Texas designer avoids sweatshops and makes her line locally, using low-impact dyes and materials such as hemp, certified organic cotton and bamboo. Her dresses are funky and sexy and youthful all at once, due to the A-line cuts and sassy strapping. The new fall line will be available for viewing soon. Until then, you can see her catalog at My Corset...and soon in one of your favorite grocery outlets.
