Orange Peel Tonic

Derived from an old folk recipe, this tonic promotes vigorous good health through its concentration of vitamin C. Vitamin C, of course, has become well-known for its antioxidant powers and, when taken in large quantities, for its ability to help fend off the miseries of a cold. If you include the white of the peel in this tonic, you will also benefit from the bioflavonoids, which help the body to more efficiently assimilate vitamin C. Orange Peel Tonic is one of the easiest tonics to make, and when paired with the spicy taste of cloves, it offers a pleasant change from the ubiquitous glass of orange juice.

You’ll need:

1 orange, organic
3 whole cloves
1 teaspoon local honey
1 cup purified water

To make:

Remove the peel from the orange and dice. Place in a mason jar or other container with a lid. Add the cloves and honey. Bring the water to a boil, pour in the jar, and stir slightly. Cover and allow to steep for 12 hours. Stir the tonic, cover again, and let stand for another 12 hours. Strain the tonic and drink at room temperature.

Oh this sounds incredibly delicious…my body needs more vitamin C, that zesty, tangy sense of refreshment…
