Whole Foods Announces Premium Body Care Seal

When it comes to organic foods, federal standards define what can be called organic; not so in the world of personal care products. A few intrepid companies are making skincare products that are actually certified to organic food standards (Origins Organic is one), and others are using ingredients from nature.

But there are companies labeling products “organic” or “natural” despite using standard industrial chemicals and potentially harmful surfactants and sudsers.

Whole Foods Market is bursting that bubble. The company has devised its own set of standards and seal for the purest personal care items on its shelves. The natural and organic chain says it has awarded the Premium Body Care seal to nearly 1,200 products that are free of parabens, polypropylene and polyethylene glycols, and sodium lauryl and laureth sulfates.
