It's truly sad how many simple, fun things to do are taking a backseat to video games and internet surfing. A couple months ago, I saw a news clip about a new portable video game for girls that is not an adventure-oriented type game like one would expect, but instead, virtual paper dolls.

There was four little girls sitting in a living room playing this nintendo DS game instead of, you know, literally been playing paper dolls. All were sitting still, head bowed to their screen, not even occurring to them that there's 3 other girls right next to them that they could be playing with.

If I ever have kids, I don't know how I'm going to avoid a scenario like this, but I will sure try and limit technology and keep them playing outside (or at least actively playing) as much as humanly possible.
