oh, also, i meant to add that a good piece of advice is to add fresh slightly-crushed mint leaves to your ice water. it will make you feel cooler than just drinking water alone. :)

the problem with hanging wet sheets around is that the culprit for our summer weather is humidity. adding more moisture to the air that already feels like walking through a thick sauna isn't going to help.
i hate to do it, but turning on the window ac when the indoor temps get close to 90 is the only way to keep from getting heat rash and heat stroke. ks summers are BRUTAL!

We live in Arizona, thanks for the advice but hanging sheets outside would just cause them to catch fire in the 120 degree summer heat.

Actually hanging the sheets in the windows could work well as a clothes line though. LOL

Great stuff -- the damp sheets over the window move is genius; so simple, so easy, I wouldn't be surprised if we discovered that the ancient Greeks were using it in Homeric times (like window shades, it's often the lowest-tech solutions that are the most effective). But glad you noted, too, the importance of combatting the hidden heat sources within the home (electronics, the dryer, etc).
