Here is an interesting fact: If you fill one plastic water bottle up 1/4 of the way with oil, that is how much oil it takes to fill the bottle up!

I like stainless steel water bottles the best. Klean Kanteen makes great bottles. Also the bottles come with 2 lids which is great for me cause I loose everything. Sigg has great designs too but I think most of them are made from aluminum.

thanks! concise and clear reasons why we shouldn't use bottled water. i would also add that even if the bottles are recycled, that requires more petroleum. and that garbage dumps are often if not always located in poorer communities (whether in the US or in the global south), which contributes to environmental racism.

but i also wonder--what's a safe, reusable bottle to use? i get concerned about nalgene because of the reason 5 you listed (chemicals could be leached from the plastic). i wonder about thermoses as well, which have both metal and plastic parts.
