I have to say that society is too judgmental on women who do not have children. I am an 'old' bride as I got married a year ago at the age of 37. I'd never been married before and it took a while to meet the man who became my husband. I would love to have children. I wanted to have children when I was a kid! But.... I have a number of health issues which has changed my mind about having children. I've been disabled for the past year due to these health conditions.

When I got engaged, the assumption of my colleagues was that I was going to start a family right away, and they said that I would find that the pregnancy would probably not be as bad as I feared. Pregnancy is only the first step, there are the next 20 or so years to consider too. Right now I don't have the energy to keep up with a toddler, a young child, an older child, except for short visits with my nieces and nephews.

Am I being "selfish" because I have decided not to have children? I don't think so. If I am barely capable of looking after myself, then how effective could I be as a parent? I'm grieving the loss of my dream to be a mother, but I also know it's the right thing to do. When I am feeling well enough, I intend to see how I can help kids who are already around and who are very desperately in need of an adult who DOES care about them.

You don't have to be a mother to have special children in your life!

I'm 37 and fell pregnant the first time I had sex with my partner. I had actually fallen into the trap of thinking I probably couldn't fall pregnant "at my age" because I have been told countless times by so called friends that my "biological clock is ticking." I've heard so much media about not being able to fall pregnant after 30, I guess I was stupid enough to subconsciously believe it.
Also, I can't tell you how upsetting it used to be to hear "Well, at your age the risk of having babies with Downs Syndrome is so high..." or "You'd better hurry up!" UGH!. So awful to hear this from smug friends who don't even take a moment to consider how I may feel about this. People don't ask how you feel about having children or not. They just look at this barren 30-something and think, well, she's left it too late now, and go on to offer their "hurry up, that clock is ticking!" advice.
Well, to prove that age is NOT a factor, I am obviously very fertile, and very healthy. All my tests for have come back as really low risk. I've had zero morning sickness, and carry on with my fitness routines and life as normal. I'm 19 weeks now, still not showing and people I work with have no clue that I'm pregnant (except for those whom I've shared my joyous news with). I just can't wait to see the look on the faces of those who said it couldn't happen when they notice my baby belly.
Perfectly healthy and able at 37! Eat that stupid media and inconsiderate people.

1. who makes the money off fertility drugs...?
2. there are too many people on planet earth anyways, so if a woman does not want to have a baby - very smart & considerate (and a smaller footprint)...
I guess its about time the programming in this regard starts to change, no?
