It's true, not everyone can afford the finest organic whole foods (or they think they can't because maybe they're paying a cable TV bill, and go shopping at the mall too often??) ... but it's so good to be inspired. I personally consider myself a food elitist (arugula and all!), simply because I think everyone should have access to fresh, delicious, wholesome, whole foods! That's what I want to eat, and I'd love all my neighbors to eat it too.

Gardening is becoming all the rage and as it spreads, so too will the foodie cause. After all, there's no pride in eating a bag of Doritos and a box of Kraft Mac & Cheeze. I don't care how inexpensive it was.

You are what you eat, and that is absolutely true, from your soul right down to your physical molecules!!

Waters suffers from being a Berkeley / Bay area cliche and as such she's an easy target. In its time though, Chez Panisse was pretty darn revolutionary among American restaurants. She deserves credit for that.

I think the days of the $300 dinner at Chez Panise are over for most of us Bay Area foodies, but I think Alice Waters is headed in the right direction with slow food and organic. It really is just a return to the old days, when we ate what we grew ourselves. Kids are eating garbage at schools and at home. And in food prep---it all boils down to time. Alice has time but most people don't because of our warped sense of deadlines and expectations. Alice makes time to grow, pick and cook. What are we doing with our precious time that is so much more important?

I LOVE Alice and everything about her...I guess some think she is snobby and elitist but I think she represents the ideal that we should all strive for when it comes to our food! She has done incredible things for our country when it comes to local/organic and will continue to do so...
