Religion has prayed on the backs of the ignorant with the weapon of fear of hell and damnation for a long time. The use of the 3 wise men bringing gifts to the infant Jesus was probably the basis of the meaning of a monetary standing in the church, hence the Sunday Collection and the Bank of Rome. Although my parents thought they did the right thing, I am RESENTFUL for the brainwashing insensitive guilt. At 68, I look back at how many people thought they were going to hell for eating meat on Fridays or missing Mass on Sundays and many more so called sins. This Catholic church is a creation of many sinful men who were possesed by lust, money and control to name just a few evil qualities. Today, I look for peace of mind, kindness to myself and a tolerance of others, which isn't always easy. There are alot of spiritual people in this world who lend a hand to others unselfishly. Religion doesn't have to begin with Hail Mary or Our Father. A thoughtful act of compassion for another human being comes from a caring heart. That's what those old theologians didn't quite get.

I love this post; I went to Lourdes a few years ago and I'm still gobsmacked by the crowds of people turning to Mary - by their faith. But there are miracles everyday. Sometimes the survival of an eco-fashion chain is a miracle.
