Great post, Vanessa - on a topic I feel strongly about. I've read of plenty of examples where a design has been adopted from nature and tried out, and only *then* have all the benefits of using that method of doing things become clear. The natural world is an extraordinarily subtle and elegant design workshop. Added to which, we sometimes blur together the concepts "simplicity" and "unsophistication", and we look at something in nature that's very simply designed yet perfect for the job in ways often too subtle for us to see at first....and we think it should look more complicated, so we "improve" it! So it's nice to see that biomimicry research is setting the balance straight.
