Hi Caitlin,

I agree that we shouldn't let Big Oil off the hook - but not all the direct action against BP has just focused on the company. Some of it in the UK has also focused on oil companies generally.

But one doesn't necessarily have to exclude the other. It is easy to demonise BP right now, and we can use that to make the case against oil dependency generally.

Unfortunately Democrats in the US have been incredibly slow or too scared to do that. There is a real lack of political anger and will on both sides of the Atlantic to talk about this - but I see any direct action against any oil company as a way to start that debate and take action!

Another thing I meant to add about BP and the Libya affair is that we should question why this is coming up now? The prisoner was released in August last year - it didn't just happen! Hmm could it be convenient for supporters of the oil industry to make BP look bad NOW?
