A torch you shake into life? Brilliant idea, possibly better than crank torches. And I’ve been geekily in love with the USBCell for months now (and now I’m wondering why I haven’t invested in any).

I can recommend the handheld solar panels – I’ve got a similar model which I use in parallel with my little HyMini wind turbine – the result being that I can go away on my bike without ever having to worry about finding a place to recharge my phone. (They can also all be connected together, topping each other up, so each device holds nearly a battery’s worth of power: essentially giving me nearly two spare phone batteries).

And all so inexpensive. Kinda crazy!
