Or, of course, as stated, shoe soles.

In Peru I remember you could buy very inexpensive sandals where the soles were literally cut from tire treads. It could turn into a trendy thing here in the United States… “I good my Goodyear soles on!”… “Oh yeah, well I got Firestone!”
