But maybe they can make up for it with quality and innovation? NYC needs the garment district to keep its creative cred. That&#039;s for darn (yuk yuk) sure.]]></description>

		<description><![CDATA[Really great piece Amy, on an incredibly important subject that needs to be addressed more often.  As a designer, producing in the U.S. has always been a #1 priority, from a sustainability standpoint of course, but also as a means of preserving an art form that once thrived here.  Quality, technique, and fashion-as-art are disappearing and being replaced with fast, formless garments that are treated as disposable.  It&#039;s up to both consumers and designers to really look at what it means when production is sent overseas in order to save a buck.

And I LOVE this quote, because it&#039;s reality -

&quot;When I go talk to young designers now, I tell them, the idea of being a designer has to be as important to you as breathing. If you&#039;re not prepared to be poor, if you&#039;re not prepared to be a nobody, if you&#039;re not prepared to make a difference then don&#039;t f*cking do it.&quot;]]></description>
