The only clothing items I put in the trash are undergarments, because I think that’s just gross to reuse – but someone once told me you could put them in clothing recycle bins (as opposed to thrift store donation bins). A mass of cheap clothing from the west destroys local markets and cottage industries. While the 2nd hand clothing market does create some job opportunities this isn’t always in balance with those it destroys (and let’s face it, would you rather be a local entrepreneur creating and selling your own designs, or working for some huge global company sorting through other people’s crap). Oxfam did a very good report on this that’s worth checking out.
