I’m sorry to say it, but after reviewing the ingredients on the website for SmartShield SPF 30, I don’t think this is a very eco-friendly or healthy option for sunscreen. I don’t want to be an alarmist, but some of the ingredients are considered carcinogens, specifically Padimate O, a PABA derivative.
Parabens have been found to be hormone disruptors. Octinoxate has also been linked to reproductive toxicity and endocrine disruption.
A great place to find out whether a product is safe is http://www.cosmeticsdatabase.com.
Unfortunately, I couldn’t find SmartShield on this site, so I submitted the ingredients list to them to analyze.

It’s so hard to find the right sunscreen these days. One that I’ve tried that has the least amount of toxic ingredients is Keys (though it has kind of a funny smell). You can get it here:

I live in a country where being dark orange and leathery is still (still!) a desirable thing for anyone between 15 and 40. Ironic really: all that lovely rain to soothe skin and unblock pores, and still the sunlamps come out. 🙂

Thanks for the sunscreen tip. As I become less toxic and more sensitive to chemicals, I need to seek out purer and purer foods and products. I truly can’t tolerate commercial-mainstream-chemical products anymore! And of course, I see that as a good thing!
