		<description><![CDATA[Great article. I think I&#039;ve always loved the 20s fashion for simply this reason - women finally got to throw off their corsets and cut their hair short. It was such a revolution!

Although pantyhose weren&#039;t around in the 40s - they weren&#039;t invented until the 1960s. During the 40s they only had stockings. The invention of pantyhose themselves were actually very representative of how women&#039;s lives were changing - they wanted something simpler than suspenders and garter belts. My mother remembers the change very clearly and to this day my mum can not understand why women would want to wear stockings.

Although I do question the last paragraph about whether we are free to wear what we want now. I think there are still a lot of social constraints. And I can&#039;t help but think the way some people dress nowadays might actually reflect their apathetic attitude to feminism...discuss! ;0)
