as a man i have no problems with feminism… however wen equal rights mean equal then I will stand up alongside every feminist in the world and chant sing dance whatever they wann do, however b4 i do that i will want to see fathers having the same rights as mothers to their children wen they split up, male rape and abuse given the same thought as the female counter part, the list can go on. Yes lets be equal, but equality means the bad parts as well as the good

It’s crazy how the word “feminism” can be so threatening to others. If you were to ask a bunch of people if they believe women should have equal rights, most would say yes but if you ask those same people if they’re a feminist many would say no. The word has a bad rap and I think it slows the feminist movement down and keeps people from jumping on board. Maybe the word “feminism” is too isolating and some just don’t like the sound of it. Hmmm, would I be intimidated by a movement called “MALEinism”?

Funny how feminists have become synonymous with women’s libbers.

The 18-y.o. granddaughters of the 60s bra-burners are now “empowering themselves” by selling images of their naked selves for thousands of bucks on the net (ostensibly for funding their college educations, whatev). Karma is a bitch.

in the 60’s the media and the conservatives did a “glenn Beck” on the feminist movement, (& the peace movement, integration/black pride movement, the ecology -nature movement, those who were in any way rebellious, coool or smoked pot occasionally,or listened to rock) and all those IN those movements, trying to divide them. the distinctions were false, and most of the “ugly” feminists were paid government “narcs”, provocateurs, trying to create MORE backlash and polarization. but middle america believed the propaganda, making “feminists” and non-, BOTH disavow and put down the movement…. incredibly successful for Hoover and Agnew, etc. and set ALL the movements back by years, decades. the only one that grew much was the one to leave vietnam, as more died and were drafted…. there never really was a distinction, you were told there was, and created it….

Back in the 1960’s when we began the movement, there were two camps: Feminism, which advocated equal pay for equal work, maternity leave, permission to sign contracts, equal pension, etc. (and it was still nice if a man opened a door for you) and Women’s Liberation who’s followers were the hairy armpit, bra burning militants and often lesbian. Time has blurred these distinctions.

Katherine – the term in the problem…not the activism. When some women are viewed as somehow less equal, the terms IMHO loses its validity.
