No, i'm not speaking specifically of Katherine Hamnett's tees - just supporting Amy's point that there are a lot of tees out there with sustainability messaging that are not on tees made from sustainable textiles. Ironic, yah?

Here, here! Great article. I run a company that does custom imprint product (we specialize in sustainable products) and it continues to amaze me how many folks are willing to put good messages on bad products. A parallel issue to the one you identify here (environmental messaging on conventional products), is the lack of attention to the social side of the supply chain. Organic cotton is fabulous, but you can make organic cotton tees in a sweatshop.

We have a bit of a hierarchy when we work with clients - if they can't afford an organic cotton t-shirts, we try to find a conventional one that has some enviro features (Oeko-Tex 100 certified for example - www.oeko-tex.com), AND is manufactured by a brand with stated commitments to worker rights (A Fair Labor Association Licensee for example www.fairlabor.org). The aim is to move folks along a trajectory to making better choices, and educating them along the way.

Thanks so much for this post - it's a refreshing look at green gone wrong.
