THANK YOU for putting this out here. I struggle with this every day as a scientist and a communicator. I don't know what to do sometimes. But it's an amazing relief to know I am not alone. I think we need a movement of some sort... at least a hashtag -- #ecoblivionaphobia?

So so true... thank you for the article Sarah. I feel that once you reach the point of getting deeply concerned about the environmental situation or get to know about the alternatives you have (such as the existence of an earth friendly product instead of the traditional one...) it's hard to go back and act again as if you didn't know. But it's also hard to stay committed and in an optimistic mood everyday, to carry on with your personal actions in balance and respect with the non-concerned people around you...
It will be nice to progressively let us talk more about this and share these feelings with more and more people.

I hear you sister - in fact I had one of those unfortunate public meltdowns today which made this article so wonderfully validating, thank you Sarah.

I have one more to add to the list: instead of focusing so much on the problem, what if we spent some of that energy supporting those on our own team? We're stronger as collaborators than competitors, and let's face it, we need all the help we can get!

Thank you Sarah for a fantastic article! I actually just got emotional reading this because I too am cracking up with the same overwhelming feeling of powerlessness and fear that some of our most pressing issues will never be solved.

Yet as backwards as it sounds, I'm optimistic that all the negativity and resistance that we "bleeding-heart-liberal-hippie-environmentalists" feel is really an indicator that some kind of progress is being made. Simply because, we humans are more resistant to change than any other psychological stressor.

Perhaps that's just my deluded justification for advocating a more sustainable lifestyle, but it helps me get out of bed in the morning when I know that there are others out there like me with whom I can share the weight of the world.

So thank you for a wonderful article. And to reiterate Rebecca's comment, "Hi, I'm Victoria and ditto what she said."
