It’s a worry. I haven’t considered the impact on the livelihood of beekeeping, and the loss of a generation of training that would accompany a crash in bee populations. Excellent point, Luanne.

As Global Patriot says, perhaps the traditional view of beekeeping as a profession to be looked at in isolation, or even (gnnnnn!) a *hobby*, is deeply inadequate. It’s deeply part of a system, and if it fails, so does the system.

Also, maybe beekeeping needs a new relationship with big business.
