Why the quotations around "illegals"? Your post is good, and I've read both books, but let's not forget that people entering into Arizona by breaking through the boarder, many of whom are smuggling drugs and weapons into our country, are illegal. There's no playful tossing-aside of that fact. Just because you have sympahthy for these people doesn't mean our country should bow to people who refuse to enter our country the honest and law-abiding way.

Yes, Ali, I see your point. I put quotations around illegals, because in the case of the women in these books, the documentation process was really questionable, as it often is, and the wrong paperwork which uses the stamps "legal and Illegal" can decide a person's deadly fate. I'm super radical this way, and I apologize, but I root for human life. I'm appreciative of borders and laws, truly I am, and certainly want to keep terrorists out of my backyard. But I'm not concerned about Mexicans and drugs. I want families to have a crack at a life with shelter and food and jobs and pay- which they deserve, even if their stupid governments at home can't get it together. But you are right, about the fact bad people can cross borders, too. Thanks for your comments!
