		<description><![CDATA[Oh, very good presentation of a very down to earth issue.  (An unintended pun, I guess).  You brought out both sides very well, and as usual, there are the two conflicting positions:  the &quot;noble&quot; side and the economic side.  It&#039;s just like drilling for more oil - we need it but then there are the downsides.  So, on balance, I say, let the people eat.  This one is kind of important.]]></description>

		<description><![CDATA[A very comprehensive post that lays out the problems associated with biotech in a clear and thoughtful way.  I only take issue with one point - 

You repeat the biotech industry promotional language that their products have the &quot;potential to raise crop yields&quot; and &quot;increase the nutrient value in food&quot;.  So far, comparing biotech and traditional crops shows that their yields are virtually equal.  In the developing world, crop yields from traditional and conventional agriculture are actually higher than those of the same type of biotech crops. Bottom line - expensive, petroleum-based inputs are still required to ensure that biotech crops produce on par with conventional varieties.  This is hardly a revolution.

As for higher nutritional value...where is it?  The world still waits for that one...]]></description>
