I'm an organic consumer, and I don't buy any junk food; I don't even regard it as edible. I prepare almost everything that I put in my mouth from scratch. I'm fortunate to have a week-to-week farm share; the produce is organic but not certified, and that's fine with me. I pay $10 for a bag of food that usually weighs about ten pounds. Last week's bag was beets (which I'm still eating), celery (ditto), carrots, two types of basil, blueberries and garlic. Of course, I made pesto (all I needed was parsley, I had pine nuts, nutritional yeast, and Kalamata olives and good EVOO).

One of the biggest problems with industrial scale agriculture is that it uses more and more glyphosate (the main ingredient in Roundup). Glyphosate KILLS soil-borne organisms, and leaves soil sterile. It's also making it into our waterways (runoff), and killing fish and other aquatic life. When you buy bulk pulses (beans, lentils) and bulk grains, buy organic only. Glyphosate is used as a desiccant (drying agent) for beans and grains, so they're easier to harvest. Considering that glyphosate is a culprit for the near-epidemic of leaky gut (it isn't just gluten to blame), it's best to avoid. Health and peace.
