Spent my whole summers in pools as a kid in L.A. and there is no chance of filling them in until water gets much more scarce. This summer at the Dublin Community Center I noticed families coming to swim in an untreated fountain area, which I thought was crazy unsanitary, but perhaps not much worse than a public hot tub I experienced at a hotel in Laguna, where kids were using the spa to clean off their sandy bodies from the beach. Talk about gross!

Sadly I’m far from being able to own my own house, let alone install a pool! But I’ll keep this in mind. Another thing worth considering is the water usage – in places like California and south-eastern Australia, water shortages make it hard to justify a home pool. Luckily for me I have a public pool right near my house.
