I think that journaling is one of the best self-reflective acts we can do. Not only is it great for looking at our lives and our feelings, but it is a great barometer for knowing when things are 'off'. I always know that when I stop journaling, I am getting far away from myself. It is a great tool for self awareness in this way.

I often feel that what's written is almost irrelevant, compared to the act of swirling and looping a pen across a fresh page - an act that releases something satisfying and therapeutic and uniquely self-expressive. It's how to make your soul rise into your fingers.

(I always filled my earliest journals with stories, spaceships and notes about girls. That's me all over, unfortunately).
