I"m considering the use of leather flooring in my kitchen for several reasons: it's a recycled material; backed with bamboo so it will be easy to walk on; seems to be easy care but I'd like to see some customer reviews; finally, it's neither wood nor tile which I'm tired of. However, I need to know how careful I have to be with this product. We have experienced floating engineered flooring and were very disappointed. Is this product as durable as hardwood floors, for example?

What's to stop my dog from eating this floor like he does my shoes? LOL! All kidding aside, I'm amazed by how many new flooring options there are. Anything but carpet! My best friend who's a designer just showed me some green flooring made out of recycled wood strips. I had no idea, but it makes sense, that the manufacturing of engineered and regular parquet flooring would produce so much waste. When I read that Staybull flooring actually makes brand new floors out of it, I was really impressed.

Meh. While I like the whole re-using and recycling thing (no waste is better than more efficient waste). I just don't think I could walk around on flesh all day. Interesting concept, though!

Based to the standard abrasion (Taber) test, using hardwood as the base standard, leather fared slightly better than hardwood. It took 8,000 revolutions of sandpaper applied at a constant pressure to wear through the finish on the leather sample while it took 7,500 revolutions on the hardwood sample.

Like any other type of flooring, any sharp object will scratch the finish when sufficient force is applied, this includes claws and heels.

To clean the leather floor, you just need to vacuum and damp mop.

I always prefer to reuse rather than waste and throw out, especially in the case of leather. I can't imagine trying to keep them clean though...I'd be intrigued to see it in person.

Sounds like a good way to re-use fashionably... but I wonder how durable they could be given how easily leather-anything seems to scratch or scuff. Is is made dog and cat-claw proof, as well as shoe-proof?
