Hunting for sport doesn't make sense for me, however hunting licenses and regulation fees pay for preserving some of the habitat of those being hunted. So, while people may disagree about people hunting animals, they are doing more to preserve those animals habitats than city dwellers hundreds of miles away. I hunt and fish for eating and I think that it isn't right to eat something that was alive and criticize others for actually knowing how the animal died. People can eat burgers artificially fattened for their consumption and killed unjustly or you can go out and kill a deer fairly. By the way, the deer population is too much in the Midwest so I am glad to be able to hunt rather than cars hitting them and people getting hurt. Just saying.

I grew up in a family that fishes and hunts game. Yes, the activities are enjoyable, but its not just for "fun.." There is a reverence that comes from preparing even the lowliest fish to become a meal to feed and sustain my family. When you are intimately involved -- to the point of looking into the eyes and literally the heart of an animal that has given its life to feed you, the connection between human and nature is undeniable. It is acutely apparent the responsibility we all have to protect and care for all of the earth's bounty. I feel like I am far more respectful of the meat I consume that has come from my husband's hunting, than are those people who mindlessly order from a drive-thru window, a pre-formed, perfectly-circular patty weighing 1/4 lb. or even people who buy their chickens in a sealed plastic bag from the grocery store.
