I have to say that as ridiculous and crazy as all these Peta stunts sound, they are tame in comparison to the ones of which I have heard, which include the murder of performing animals (with the justification that they are better off dead).
Many people who work for Peta don’t even know the extremism of its movers and shakers.

Pete – “where is even the evidence that Vegitarians are healthier?” Ah, well. There’s an interesting topic. 🙂 And you’re in the right place to talk about it.

Do you think that it’s an over-generalization? Or do you mean that cutting out meat is an unhealthy way to change your diet?

I tend to agree, JeffCon – the evidence fits. Maybe PETA’s heart is generally in the right place, and they’re doing a few truly noteworthy campaigns – but on the whole, they’ve got an awful lot to prove with that track record. But…while the philosophy that any publicity is good publicity is their driving purpose, it’ll hold them back from reaching out to a lot of people. In fact, judging from comments here, there and everywhere on PETA-related activities, extremism and refusal to meet in the middle is – unsurprisingly – driving everyone into their respective corners. Entrenching people. All so avoidable…

Regarding the veggie ad, Caitlin, I think it was a combination of the suggestive tone (half-naked women with, er, sensually-shaped vegetables) and the timing, with the emphasis on the latter. It’s the Superbowl ad break, and I bet NBC are super-jittery about any hint of a reoccurence of “wardrobe malfunctions” and the like, after the Janet Jackson debacle. So even if it was kinda mild in some ways (I’ve seen a lot worse on British TV, frankly)…it was completely unacceptable because of the timing.
Which was the whole point. Guaranteed rejection.

Peta are a ridiculous organisation trying to impose their ideas on morality on all of us. Also, had I seen the better sex advert, I would have complained volubly to the advertising standards people; where is even the evidence that Vegitarians are healthier? I think we should make PETA extinct.
