I grew up in New York City so I have never had that but there is something so romantic to me to spend an evening chatting on the front porch, sharing some wine and watching the neighborhood goings-on.

It encourages people to hang out on the front porch and say hello to anyone who walks by the house. It happens a lot in summer when I walk my dog. It’s one of the reasons I choose the place where I live.

They said they always have toddlers with young parents out front throughout the year, on bikes, sipping wine. I think it happens until those kids become teens, and then everyone disappears, as in my hood. I would love to start a movement too. I do miss that neighborly interaction.

I’m all for it. I have noticed that I usually have nice interactions with neighbors when I work in the front yard pruning shrubs and weeding and the like.
