I just started a name blog (http://names4real.wordpress.com) where I list actual names taken from birth announcements. I have notebooks full of actual baby names. I have seen Coral, Free, Etsy, Gore, Henna, Ivory, Kale, Nash, Tiger, Urban, Wolf, and Zen already. I’ll be on the lookout for baby Jungle, Otter, & Polar. 🙂

Kinda reminds me of Garp. It’s true, kids have to go through life with parental branding – but if you think about it, names are just a combination of letters and letters make sounds. We are all just sounds.

Okay, pretty good. In fact, I kind of like the idea. But, Gore…I don’t know about that one. In naming a kid, you have to remember you’re consigning them for life to a label. They will actually have to go to school and function in a social setting with some normalcy, and so so. Other kids may not be as charitable as we are in our moment of inspiration. There is a certain power to names and I don’t want any bad self-fulfilling stuff going on. It is no light deal, because the kid didn’t get to have any input in the decision.
