Sara, I'm so with you on the jab to Ingrid Newkirk. I'm a veggie and certainly admit to getting stirred-up enough about animal cruelty to fantasize about all kinds of crazy animal liberation activities (!) but I'm so sick of PETA "depicting women as pieces of meat in order to challenge folks that treat animals as, er, pieces of meat." http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/2010/oct/28/peta-women-meat

Fabulous! It is really important to call this type of trash out!

In our image driven society we are bombarded with literally thousands of ad campaigns per day. Not many people stop to consciously think about, let alone critically analyze the content of these messages. In fact, the point of advertising is to have a subliminal influence which permeates & influences our psychology.

With ads like this everywhere, the cumulative cultural ramifications are positively frightening.

Way to go Sara for telling it like it is.

I don't know where the line is on this issue. I kind of want to forgive the calendar, because it's not say, as disturbing as say, the Bebe photo you posted or a PETA ad.

Nonetheless, it is tiring and annoying when companies/orgs use women as sex objects to sell basically anything and everything. It's especially bothersome when it comes from groups supposedly on the progressive end of the spectrum.

In the end, my guess (hope?) is that it won't translate to increased solar panel sales because no one will take them seriously after seeing their "Hey look at me- I'm trying way too hard to get your attention! I have breasts! And solar panels!" calendar.
