When I went to the Arctic in 2006 I found plastic on beaches that may never have had humans visit before (some of them had only recently become accessible due to melting sea ice). Because the Arctic ocean is a bowl with two entrances, it gets currents from Europe and North America but once trash has entered, it never really leaves. Tragic!

And who hasn’t seen the pictures of all the plastic trash and fishing lines in the guts of dead baby albatross? Google it if you haven’t. Heart-breaking!
