1. Eat the Rainbow

All of the influencers we asked swore by eating a plant-based diet; in fact, it was their first tip. There’s no doubt you are what you eat, and your diet is reflected in your hair, skin, and nails. Taryn swore that her vegetable-heavy diet makes her glow naturally from the inside out. Agnes seconded this idea. She drinks a glass of green juice every morning to keep her skin clear, naturally. Nicole makes her own weekly beautification tonic, which includes fresh young coconut, water, raw aloe, lime juice, and fresh mint. 

2. Take Care of Your Skin

When your skin looks good, you look good. Each gal has a slightly different routine, but all focused on daily cleansing and moisturizing. Taryn keeps things basic by cleansing with Pacifica’s Coconut Micellar Water Cleanser, which is available at Target.

For those with super sensitive skin, try Agnes’ suggestion. She uses Naturally Lindy products for everything from simple cleansers to acne prevention. “It’s aloe vera based, vegan and cruelty free!” she promised.

Devyn is a bit more regimented, due to her occupation as an on-camera host. “I have to wear a lot of makeup everyday, so it’s very important to me to make sure I take it all off at the end of the day,” she cautioned. “I use the Alba Botanica Volcanic Ash Cleanser and the Osea Malibu Eyes & Lips moisturizer. They’re made of seaweed, and I absolutely love it! I also occasionally cleanse with Micellar water and will do a red algae or clay mask if I feel a break out coming on. Weekly, I also apply the Osea Malibu Hyaluronic acid to stimulate collagen production and prevent wrinkles. I also recently started applying a Vitamin C serum each night that helps reduce blackheads and brighten skin. I’m loving it!”

3. Cruelty-Free Makeup Tips

With a clear canvas of beautiful skin, makeup isn’t necessary, but it can add a nice touch to accentuate your natural beauty. Plus, its fun to play! Each influencer emphasized the importance of purchasing cruelty-free brands. Favorites included Kat Von D, NYX, Lime Crime, and Elf.

Elle shared her secret to her stand-out look: focus on just one element. “I pretty much only do eye make up and maybe a matte lip,” she said. She uses the NYX liquid black eyeliner for her signature pop. “Usually, I don’t have a lot of time between cooking, visits to the gym and delivering food around to my clients, so you’ll almost always find me with my thick black eyeliner! I love this look, because it is so versatile.”

4. Wear Timeless, Sustainable Fashion

Of course, all of these animal-loving glamour girls steer clear of clothing made from animals. However, each upped the fashion game by insisting that sustainable, ethical fashion is an equally important factor. For unique finds from shoes, accessories, and clothing, the gals suggested Bead & Reel, Mat & Nat, MooShoes, and Reformation. On a budget? Nicole, Devyn, and Michelle advocated thrift shopping. Craving a tan? Don’t cave into the usual brands before trying these natural self-tanners, because yes, they do exist!

Fake tan isn’t known for being natural. In fact, as far as beauty products go, it can be one of the worst offenders for touting questionable ingredients. Many will use synthetic dyes to add to the tanned effect, and buckets of fragrance to mask the smell. But it doesn’t have to be this way!

The main ingredient in self-tan that gives you a golden glow is DHA, which reacts with your skin to turn it a darker hue, and it turns out that it can be naturally derived from sugar beets with a cinch.

The result? Natural self-tanners without the guilt, nasties or dreaded oompa loompa/President of the U.S. effect. Paired with a few simple tips, you’ll have a natural looking tan in no time.

Get Scrubbing

When it comes to getting an even tan, the key is to scrub up. Any dry flaky areas will absorb more product and lead to a patchy tan. While we all love a good natural body scrub brimming with oils, you’ll want to avoid those to exfoliate with as they leave any oily residue on the skin (usually a good thing). Instead, stick to a good exfoliating glove and use some elbow grease!

Elbows, Knees and Toes

We’ve all learned this one the hard way after sporting a pair of uber bronzed knees. Yep, not the most natural look. The skin on your elbow, knees. and feet is drier than most other areas of the body, so to stop them from soaking up extra tan and having all the fun, prepare them with a dose of moisturizer or balm.

Put Away the Moisturizer

While you want to moisturize the above, avoid the rest of your body. Your skin just won’t take to the self-tan as well, so it’s better to be smooth and dry. Don’t fret about thirsty skin though, because the below list of natural and organic self-tanners will tick that box with no extra effort needed.

No Waxing

You’re prepping for a special event or big night out, so you’re doing the works; hair, wax and tan. Here’s the thing, waxing and self-tan aren’t the best of friends. Waxing leaves the skin irritated (even if it’s natural, yanking out hair by the root sure goes against nature) and opens up pores, so wait until the following day until you apply self-tan. You also shouldn’t go for a wax post-tanning, and you’ll be stripping the top layer of your skin, aka the tan, right off along with your hair.

Keep Your Shower Cool

Most of us will shower as prep before tanning. It makes sense right? Plus, way easier to get your exfoliating game on. Just try to avoid a shower that is too hot. Again, this will open up your pores which could lead to self-tanner gathering in them for a slightly dotty look. If you want to be on the safe side, give yourself a nice cold blast before stepping out to ensure your pores are closed. Brrr!

Never Skip the Mitt!

It should go without saying, but always, always use a tanning mitt. Bare hands plus self-tan will always equal orange palms, no matter how quick you are at washing it off. Using a mitt will also help you to avoid any streakiness. Just apply your tan to the mitt first, and then rub into skin in circular motions and you’re on the way to a golden glow.

That way, the journey never ends. Middle Eastern women, with their olive skin and thick, lustrous hair, boast strong beauty traditions that are not only effective but also delicious.

The following list of beauty tips touch upon bodily cleanliness, diet and topical treatments, so you can choose from a diverse array of approaches to optimum beauty, and without getting bored.

1. Olive Oil

Apart from being an inseparable ingredient in the Middle Eastern diet, olive oil is a beauty powerhouse. Just two tablespoons of high quality, raw, unprocessed extra-virgin olive oil each day improves heart health. Topically speaking, olive oil protects the skin from UVB exposure and can reduce the change of getting skin cancer. Olive oil’s antioxidants help to keep the skin youthful and energized. Olive oil also lowers the risk of dermatitis and other skin conditions.

Apply a thin layer of olive oil on cleansed skin prior to bed. Olive oil leaves behind a shiny aftermath, so it’s best to avoid using it as your go-to moisturizer in the morning – wait until before bedtime, so that the oil can do its magic while your sleep. For the hair, comb about 2-3 tablespoons into your tresses once a week. Let the oil sit for 30 minutes before rinsing clean. Be sure to only use the highest quality olive oil that you can find. That way, the vitamins, minerals, monounsaturated fats and antioxidants are as potent as possible.

2. Rose

Rose is a beauty staple in the Middle East and widely available in various forms – soap, lotion, tonic and oil. Rose enhances beauty in more ways than one. Stress exacerbates skin disorders, including psoriasis, dermatitis and acne. Rose to the rescue! In one study, rose oil was able to decrease the breathing rate, blood oxygen saturation and systolic blood pressure among subjects, who reported feeling more emotionally relaxed and at ease. Topically, rose products exhibit the same calming affect when directly applied to skin. The plant has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties that make it the perfect tool for more youthful and radiant skin.

3. Turkish Bath

How to rock metallic makeup – you know, without looking like The Tin Man.

As much as I love the look of metallic makeup, I’m secretly terrified to use it – I mean, one wrong move and you end up resembling aluminum foil. That being said, I’m constantly drawn to take the plunge because of its futuristic and streamlined aesthetic. Whether you dive into the world of metallic eyeshadows or you dig a shimmery pout, metallic makeup can take what would otherwise be a ho-hum look and kick it up a notch (or seven).

So how to you make sure you don’t end up looking pale and ghost-like? Here are 6 important tips to ensure your metallic makeup look is more human than cyborg:

1. Start with your skin

A smooth canvas is crucial when pulling off a metallic makeup look. Much like applying foundation to dry skin, the metallic particles will exaggerate every fine line and dry patch. Make sure to exfoliate, moisturize and prime before applying. Use a matte effect on the rest of your look to give the shimmer of your metallic makeup the attention it deserves.

2. Work with your skin tone

The general breakdown of metallics versus skin tone goes a little something like this:

• If you have fair skin with cool undertones, go with pale pink or pearl shades.
• If you have fair skin with yellow undertones, test the waters with soft gold.
• If you have medium skin with cool undertones, choose rose-gold.
• If you have medium skin with yellow undertones, a peachy-gold metallic is your best bet.
• If you have olive skin, reddish-copper is best.
• If you have dark skin with cool undertones, break in with bronze.
• If you have dark skin with warm undertones, make a statement with copper.

3. Choose a focal point

Choose whether you’re going to use metallic makeup on your eyes or your lips, and keep the rest of your look soft and fresh.

4. Morph your go-to picks into metallic makeup

The best way to ease into using metallic makeup is to play with the beauty staples you’re already super comfortable with. For example, plaster on your go-to lipstick and add a frosted lip gloss on top of it. It amps up your look without taking it to an entirely new dimension.

5. Start small

If you want to take the plunge with your eye makeup first, a great way to do so is to run a thick line of metallic eye shadow across your top lash line, much like you would if you were applying eyeliner. Pair with a black eyeliner and mascara and you’ve got yourself a beauty statement.

6. Always use an applicator brush

When it comes to applying metallic makeup, blending is key – use an applicator brush instead of your fingertips, and make sure you swirl the brush on the shade instead of rubbing it so you don’t pick up too much on the brush.

Ah-mazing eyeliner tricks that’ll make your mornings sooo much easier.

Okay, so eyeliner freaks me out. One wrong move can derail your entire beauty routine – you know, the one you barely have time for in the first place. And have you ever noticed how one eye turns out perfectly and the other one totally doesn’t? Like, ever? Barf.

But hey, new year new you and all that jazz. I say it’s time we add 12 (count ’em, 12) new eyeliner tricks to our resume. Who knows? You might end up with eyes that match! (And by you, I really mean me.) Let’s get started, shall we?

1. Heat things up

If your pencil feels like it’s scraping your eyelid, heat it with your blow dryer for two to three seconds. This will soften it enough to glide across your waterline.

2. Wanna wear bright shadow?

To make your neon shadow pop, cover your eyelid with a white eyeliner first. This will cancel out the color of your skin so it doesn’t mute the color of the shadow.

3. Speaking of white eyeliner…

It can make even the most tired woman look rested. For real:

4. If you don’t have the steadiest hand in the world…

Or you do, just not when you’re clutching liquid liner, line your lash with pencil liner first then trace the line with liquid. Consider it the training wheels of eyeliner tricks.

5. Make your lower line stay put

To keep your lower line from getting all smudgy, apply pressed powder right underneath it with a small brush. Bonus: If you use a powder that’s a tad lighter than your skin, it’ll highlight the area and make you look less tired!

6. Eyeliner crumbling?

Help your pencil eyeliner get its mojo back by popping it in the freezer for 10 minutes. The tip of the pencil will harden and you can get back to your regularly scheduled programming.

7. Never mess up a cat eye again

This is one of my favorite eyeliner tricks since it puts the rest of my Scotch tape to good use: Cut a one-inch strip of tape and dab it with your fingers to dull the stickiness (you want to go easy on your delicate eye area, after all). Apply it on an angle, upwards from your bottom lash line for a flawless wing. Here’s the full cat eye tutorial.

9. Use eye shadow as your liner

You can morph any eye shadow into eyeliner in no time: Just wet an eyeliner brush and dip! Apply a thin line over your upper lash line and you’re good to go. The dampness will make the shadow look darker and last longer.

10. Connect the dots

Line your lid with dots first and connect them for a flawless (pressure-free) line. Just make sure your dots are the same width as the line you want to create.

11. Use your eyeliner to create a smoky eye

12. For a perfect smudge

Sure, many eyeliners come with a built-in smudger on the end, but most of them leave a lot to be desired. To me, the smudges look too forced. Instead, use a shadow that’s the color of your liner, put it on a smudge brush and smudge away. It’s much easier to blend and looks hot instead of hooker-ish.

If you think the only uses for lip balm is on your lips, you’re seriously missing out. The soothing formula and its consistency make it surprisingly handy for solving other beauty and fashion mishaps. This, my friends, is repurposing at its finest.

Here are 10 uber-useful ways to let your lip balm live up to its full potential:

1. Tame those flyaways

Your hair never gives you attitude when you’re actually near your hair products (pffft!) – lucky for you, you can use your lip balm to fight back. Just rub a small amount on your palms or fingertips and then run through your unruly hair to spruce up your ‘do in a pinch.

2. Groom your brows

I have this one eyebrow hair that has to stay in place no matter what. Otherwise, it looks like I have three eyebrows. Lightly dab some lip balm along your brows as you brush them into place to make sure they stay put.

3. Treat dry cuticles

If you’re out of cuticle cream or forgot your moisturizer, rub lip balm onto dry cuticles. It’ll help keep them moisturized and prevent hangnails from causing any more trouble.

4. Prevent blisters

So, you’re trying to break in a new pair of shoes. You poor soul sole. As you’re breaking them in and your feet start whimpering, rub lip balm on the friction-frazzled areas of your feet to offer up some relief.

5. Use as an eye primer

Instead of spending oodles of money on eye primer, just use your lip balm! Spread on your lids before doing your makeup to keep it looking fresh. You can also dab some around your eye area before bed to keep your peepers moisturized.

6. Shine your shoes

If your heels are falling a little flat (ha!), add some sparkle to your step by using lip balm to shine them. Simply spread some onto a clean, dry rag and buff away!

7. Remove a stuck ring

When you’re trying to slide a stuck ring off your hand, you never picture the experience ending with your finger still attached to your body. Bust out your lip balm and coat your finger to wriggle the ring loose.

8. Keep your hair color on your hair

To prevent hair color from ending up on your skin, rub lip balm on your hairline and ears to keep them so fresh and so clean.

9. Combat shaving nicks

If you’ve cut yourself shaving and your tub’s starting to look like a murder scene, dab some lip balm on the cut. It’ll help stop the bleeding and heal the cut that much faster.

10. Nix mascara smudges

Mascara smudges are the worst. One wrong move and you end up back at square one. Apply lip balm to the smudges. Believe it or not (I tried it because I didn’t), the oils in the lip balm gently lift away the smudge without massacring the rest of your makeup. You’re welcome.

Here’s how to wear these always on trend makeup styles with a little help from the best brands in natural beauty.

1. Graphic Eyes

Geometric cat eyes and other bold graphic shapes take eye makeup to the next level, and while this definitely isn’t a trend for shrinking violets, it can easily be adapted to real-world wear. Think minimalist, but not boring. Take a cue from the Rag and Bone look (top photo), which accented an otherwise clean and fresh-looking face with a curved swipe of eyeliner just above the crease of the eyelid.  At Dior, all it took to make the eyes pop were a few highlights in silver; 100% Pure has a natural and vegan pearly silver eyeliner that would do the trick.

2. Wine Lips

Lips that look like you’ve been eating berries or sipping on a glass of full-bodied red wine can be all you need to add a healthy pop of color. 4. Bold Brows

Strong brows frame the face and add interest even when you’re not wearing any makeup. To make your brows bigger and bolder, brush them up and set them into place with brow gel like Jane Iredale’s PureBrow.

5. Oxblood and Classic Red Nails

Half-moon manicures, patterns and decals are definitely high on the list of trends for nails, but here’s one you don’t have to sit in a headache-inducing nail salon to achieve: ravishing red. The classic candy-red manicure wears well in any season, as is dark and dramatic oxblood. Try Scotch Naturals Stiletto for the former, and Priti’s Sympathy Rose for the latter. Pro tip: add a little cornstarch to some clear topcoat for a matte finish.
