Best known for founding the Green Carpet Challenge, Livia Firth has now launched a collection of her own designs including this necklace made from recycled gold and silver.

Celebrity designed fashion lines may be the bane of the sustainable style industry (and for trained designers, a supreme annoyance) but a new clothing collection by green queen, Livia Firth, continues to put the undeniable power of a famous name to good use.

After launching a handcrafted jewelry line this past spring, Livia Firth Designs recently announced their 5-piece fashion collection for fall. Described by Firth as “fundamentals for every woman’s wardrobe,” the line features a versatile LBD made from organic wool with a vegetable-tanned recycled leather obi belt, two versions of a 30s-inspired cloche hat, a butterfly-emblazoned woven wrap and a hand-crafted gold and silver butterfly necklace.

Livia Firth modeling the collection’s organic-wool little black dress, which is lined in cruelty-free silk and comes with a recycled-leather belt.

According to the U.K.’s Daily Telegraph, Firth elaborates on her choice to limit her offering to a 5 piece collection,” It is the beginning of building a sustainable cupboard, which can slowly fill with good quality, classical pieces with a twist which are produced keeping in mind the ecological impact and social justice implications.”

The butterfly-emblazoned pashmina wrap is the stunning result of a collaboration with the Panchachuli Women Weavers development program, which produces a luxury line of woven accessories and facilitates economic and social independence for women in the Indian Himalayas.

The pieces will be available this September on Firth’s shop-within-shop on Internet giant’s YOOX’s eco-friendly initiative Yooxygen. Having recently closed her west London store, Eco Age, to focus on e-commerce, the collection will join a selection of clothes and accessories from other eco-friendly brands curated by Firth for their style and sustainability.

Livia Firth designs her first piece of sustainable jewelry and teams up with C.L.A.S.S. to create a fabric library.

We’ve been thrilled to follow Livia Firth, Creative Director of Eco Age and wife of Oscar-winning actor Colin Firth, as she has brought sustainability thinking onto the red carpets for a few awards seasons now. Her Green Carpet Challenge started out as a personal project, where she chronicled her conscious gown choices on her Vogue UK blog, but has garnered significant attention lately as Firth has managed to recruit some serious star-power.

Meryl Streep teamed up with Lanvin to create a golden gown made from eco certified fabric, Tom Ford created a gorgeous v-neck cocktail gown for Julianne Moore using vintage velvet and, for the BAFTAs, Viola Davis wore the first-ever eco Valentino gown.

      googletag.pubads().refresh([adslot4]);
    });

This year, Firth has recruited an impressive roster of designers who will dress her for awards season in accordance with GCC’s strict ethical and sustainable standards. The list includes Tom Ford, Chanel, Giorgio Armani, Gucci, Yves Saint Laurent, and Stella McCartney.

Tonight’s gown was designed by Giorgio Armani with eco-friendly materials, and Firth has been involved in its creation from day one. Firth described the process as “unreal” and writes on her blog:

To work with Armani was a real lesson in the design process. Everything begins with the material. Fortunately, Giorgio loved the eco material and knew he could work with it. The passion and efficiency of Giorgio’s team has been infectious.

Just before the show kicks off, Livia will release photos of and details about her dress on her Green Carpet Challenge blog at VOGUE UK. We’ll be there too.

While the New Year has provided the typical fashion media’s pause for reflection, coverage for the sustainable fashion movement is enjoying a few more toasts and moments of celebration.

Champagne Lifestyles. Don’t you think the Golden Globes’ red carpet fashion could have used a little more green? And I’m not talking about the emerald dresses sported by Angelina Jolie, Catherine Zeta Jones, and Elizabeth Moss. The best news about Colin Firth’s win for the Kings Speech? The spotlight will be more brightly focused on his dedicated green-living wife, Livia Firth, and her Eco Age store which offers sustainable fashion and domestic solutions.

Congrats! Along with mentoring the newly launched Awamaki Lab Initiative, Study NY designer Tara St. James won the Ecco Domani Fashion Foundation Award for Sustainable Design. Along with seven New York-based designers who will each receive the $25,000 grant towards production of their runway show at February’s New York Fashion Week.

Hitting the big TIME. Discussions about the need for greener fashion are increasingly penetrating the mainstream media. Levi’s Water Less Jeans have garnered a steady stream of discussion-provoking coverage since the advance news of their launch hit the airways culminating in this week’s issue of TIME.

Bottoms up! Three U.K. mass market chains are broadening the reach of ethical fashion. After the well-received upcycled line From Somewhere, the popular supermarket chain Tesco announced the launch of a capsule collection from Goodone, made from factory surplus and off cuts.

Pharrell Williams’s sustainable Fabric company, Bionic Yarn, is teaming up with retailer Topshop to launch a three-piece denim collection with this season’s 70s style detailing. Retailer M&S is also launching a 70s influenced sustainable line, Indigo Green. The 15-piece collection will be made from organic, fair trade and sustainable sourced fabrics.
