For this particular look, we suggest repurposing a sports bra by pairing it with your athleisure looks—you can even add lace embellishments to the cups and band for extra special personalization. Nevertheless, sporty undergarments are in, as are simple bra tops that resemble your basic shelf-style or wrap around bikini tops which could be worn in lieu of buying something new. 4. Crafty Florals

Bold florals are taking the fashion world by storm, and with a little patience, you can turn everything solid in your closet into a garden party garment in no time. Fabric paint, a few homemade stamps in different shapes, and a small brush for adding details can easily fill an entire skirt, or small sliver of clothing, like a collar and cuffs, with plenty of flowers. 5. Peek-a-Boo Shirting

Ah, yes, the button down shirt. A wardrobe staple that is always evergreen means it probably won’t be difficult to get your hands on one or two or ten of these. Heck, you can even raid your man’s closet—we won’t tell!—because oversized is in, as is a fresh take on cut outs. Take the tutorial from Plan B, for example. It features cool, no-sew cut outs that you can add to any button down.    

6. Revamped Athleisure

With an ’80s/’90s street-inspired jumpsuit and tracksuit vibe happening on the runways, you might be able to pick up a few interesting finds from thrift stores. Otherwise, you can definitely DIY a few pieces. Color is in, so freshen up your solid leggings with a vibrant geometric stencil and some fabric paint like The Pretty Life Girls did. Tie in your tops by using a hint of the same pattern somewhere on the front or back. Repurpose thrifted t-shirts by turning them into tanks, or if you’re handy with a needle and thread, add some colorful patches and fabric details to your current collection.

7. Neon Dye

This fun new trend has a lot of potential. Bright, bold, and unapologetic, neons have a place in a spring or summer wardrobe. With some naturally sourced dyes, or store bought if you really want that blinding shade of yellow, then you’ll be well on your way to creating a unique masterpiece. Look for sheer tops in light colors that will take dye easily. Chokers are out, long pendant necklaces are in. Midi-lengths have been replaced by the mini skirt. And your sexy off-the-shoulder numbers are seeing a revival again this spring. But what else is new? Use the juxtaposition of hard materials to balance the softness of the romantic looks. If you want to wear these without resembling your 70-year-old grandmother, the best way to pull them off is by choosing a shoe that has interesting details. What classic films have made an indelible impact on the world of fashion?

Hollywood and fashion are inextricably intertwined. From its birth, the film industry has been obsessed with fashion–both on-screen and off–with moviegoers demanding to be transported to a magical place where everyone is gorgeous and fashionable. With all that influence, movies have played a major role in the world of fashion by contributing to trends and by helping to change fashion mores.

There have been many iconic classic films– too many to list them all here–but some do stand out for their lasting impact on the fashion world. These are the classic films that you can check on Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime, or wherever you watch films.

Most Iconic & Fashionable Classic Films

1. “Morocco” – 1930

Starring Marlene Dietrich, “Morocco” was a romantic drama about a cabaret singer and a love affair gone awry. The film was quite scandalous for its time because of the frank nature of some of the scenes–most notably when Dietrich performs in a man’s suit and kisses another woman. The film and Dietrich herself were so trendsetting that it is now commonplace for women’s fashions to incorporate menswear. In part, we have Marlene Dietrich to thank for that.

2. “The Philadelphia Story” -1940

“The Philadelphia Story” starred the inscrutable Katharine Hepburn, who played a Main Line Philadelphia socialite with a wardrobe to match her wealth and status. Memorable glamorous moments from costume designer Adrian Adolph Greenberg include a toga-inspired bathing suit coverup, another Grecian-inspired engagement gown, and plenty of pencil skirts and smart suits. This film defined 1940s fashion trends–at least for those with disposable income!

3. “Gilda” – 1946

Rita Hayworth stars as a sultry femme fatale singer in 1946’s “Gilda.” This film noir is riveting and full of intrigue, so much so that it might make you forget about the stunning costumes, but not really. Each ensemble is more glamorous than the last, but the piece de resistance is a black strapless satin gown created by costume designer Jean Louis.

4. “Rear Window” – 1954

Directed by Alfred Hitchcock, “Rear Window” starred Grace Kelly as a socialite. The renowned Hollywood costume designer Edith Head was the creator of Kelly’s wardrobe for this film. The most iconic look was a black and white dress featuring a deep off-the-shoulder “V” neckline and a Dior “New Look” skirt of chiffon tulle. Hitchcock’s genius was in the details and this dress, as well as the other fashions in the film, all had those little touches of genius.

5. “Gentlemen Prefer Blondes” – 1953

“Gentleman Prefer Blondes” starred Marilyn Monroe and featured one of the most instantly recognizable dresses from movie history–the shocking pink gown from the Marilyn’s “Diamonds Are a Girl’s Best Friend” musical number. The satin strapless dress featured a straight neckline, bare arms and a big bow on the back. It was accessorized with long matching gloves, lots of diamonds, and has often been imitated, most notably in Madonna’s “Material Girl” video.

6. “Seven Year Itch” – 1955

Another Marilyn Monroe film, the “Seven Year Itch” was a 1950s style rom-com. Most remembered for featuring the well-known white halter dress designed by William Travilla, a costume designer who dressed Marilyn Monroe in eight of her films. She famously penned a note to him that said, “Billy Dear, please dress me forever. I love you, Marilyn.”

7. “Sabrina” – 1957

“Sabrina” starred the ingenue Audrey Hepburn in a coming of age story about a young girl who comes back from France a new woman with a new wardrobe to match. Hepburn forged a relationship with designer Hubert de Givenchy, who was just starting out at the time, and her wardrobe was part Givenchy and part Edith Head. The two standout looks are both simple, yet with a subtle sophistication that will come to define Hepburn’s style. They included a black cocktail dress with ties at the shoulders, and a stunning black and white embroidered ball gown.

8. “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” – 1961

“Breakfast at Tiffany’s” was another Audrey Hepburn film with Givenchy and Edith Head collaborating. The most important look was the black gown accessorized with a tiara, a beaded bib necklace, and long black gloves, and which was originally designed by Givenchy and altered for the film by Edith Head.

1. Choose your fabrics wisely

Go with lighter-weight and sheer fabrics. “A floaty skirt of gauze or silk ‘lightens up’ the impact of inky black and doesn’t look as heavy,” says fashion expert Dianne M. Daniels. “Remember to keep the fabric opaque enough that you don’t sacrifice your modesty, but not so heavy that there’s no chance of a breeze wafting by and keeping you cool.”

2. Jackets aren’t out of the question

If you’re madly in love with your vegan leather jacket and can’t part with it during the summer months, drape it over your shoulders instead, suggests fashion expert Mary Peffer. “This allows your arms and pits to breathe but still provides a polished look,” says Peffer.

3. Cutouts are your friend

Wearing all black outfits that include cutouts or have an architectural feel will give your look a more casual vibe—plus insta-ventilation to keep you from sweating your tuchus off.

4. Wear airy shoes

“The majority of our body heat is held in our head and feet,” says Peffer. “Stay cool with open-toed sandals and heels.”

Including hits of texture within your all-black look—an embellishment here, a new fabric there—will keep your look fresh and not harsh.

Adding all-natural accessories to your ensemble, such as wood bangles, will give your look that earthy appeal we love about summer outfits.

To make your life easier, we’ve compiled a list of fashion tips and tricks to make you feel more fashionable – and less frazzled.

Here are 51 fashion tips that will leave you armed and fabulous:

1. Want longer-looking legs? Wear shoes with a pointed tip.

2. To prevent runs in your tights, spray them with hairspray.

3. Few things are worse than dropping an earring back. Put a stocking over your vacuum cleaner’s hose to find it in a snap.

4. Dry hand-washed clothing using a salad spinner.

5. Because jeans always shrink in length when they’re washed, make sure you wash them twice before getting them hemmed.

6. To look uber-chic while still showing some skin, wear shorts or a miniskirt and cover up on top. If you’re wearing a skimpy top, opt for full coverage on the bottom.

7. Naturally waterproof your canvas shoes with beeswax: Simply rub them with it and set using a blow-dryer.

8. Remove smells from vintage clothing by spritzing them with a mix of one part vodka and two parts water.

18. Remove a red wine stain by gently blotting it with a white wine-soaked cloth.

19. Drying your hair with a t-shirt instead of a towel is much gentler on your hair: It helps prevent hair shaft damage and potential frizziness.

1. Go big or go home

Nineties fashion wasn’t about being shy. If you rummage through your closet and want to throw together pink polka dots and a masculine stripe – go for it! Mixing prints is all about self-expression. The more outrageous, the better (and it pretty much makes laundry day a breeze!).

2. Mix a large print with a small print

While the whole point to mixing patterns is to go for broke in the self-expression department, you don’t want your prints to fight for all the attention and leave you in the dust. You wear your clothes, not the other way around. Try mixing a larger print (for example, a plaid) with a smaller print (perhaps a floral) to prevent clashing.

3. Go floral from H2T

If you’re a fan of Blossom Russo, you likely want to try her oh-so-charming H2T floral look – but don’t want to look like you shot your couch. Choose an unflattering neckline for your body shape and… well, the opposite. There are oodles of fashion tips out there to help you accent your best features, but it all begins with your neckline.

Below are 12 necklines (and the fashion tips that go with them):

1. Boatneck
If you’ve got an hourglass figure, a boatneck will give you a more balanced look. If you have narrow shoulders and a small chest, it will make you look bustier (cha-ching!). You should avoid this neckline if you’re apple-shaped, since your broad shoulders will appear even wider and throw your figure off-kilter.

2. Cowl Neckline
A cowl neckline is the BFF to both the small-chested and well-endowed woman: It adds volume to a small chest, while downplaying a larger one. The way the fabric drapes will highlight your neckline in a unique way – and if you’re a minimalist like me, you’ll love how it stands on its own sans jewelry.

3. Crew Neckline
This neckline is the simple, versatile rounded neck we all know and love. Because there are many different ways to wear it, the crew suits most body types. Steer clear if you have a round face, and choose a deeper scoop if you have a short neck. If you don’t have much going on in the bust department, stock up on this neckline, stat.

4. Halter Neckline
The halter makes practically every woman look like a hot tamale. Halters look best on tall women and/or women with broad shoulders. Bonus points if you’ve got well-toned arms and smokin’ shoulders. Avoid this neckline if you’ve got bulky arms and/or a large bust, as it will make you look wider than you are.

5. Off-shoulder
The off-shoulder neckline is similar to the boatneck in shape, but it sits lower on your body. It comes in oodles of styles – some show both shoulders while others expose only one. This look is super-flattering if you’re bustier or have narrow shoulders. If you have wide shoulders or bulky arms, an off-shoulder will make you look even wider.

6. One-Shoulder
If you dig drama, nothing beats a one-shoulder – or asymmetrical – neckline. If you’ve got narrow shoulders and thin arms, it will add fullness to your figure. If you’re bustier, make sure you’re wearing a dependable strapless bra, as this neckline will add volume while offering little support.

7. Scoop Neckline
This neckline is uber-versatile, as long as you watch out for the size of the scoop: A wider scoop will make women with narrow shoulders look wider, and give a bustier look to those who are challenged in that area (you know, like me). If you’re already busty, wearing a narrower scoop will create the illusion of a smaller bust. This neckline’s especially perfect for an hourglass figure, since it helps to balance out your body.

8. Square Neckline
Square necklines are great for busty women, as they provide a sophisticated look without showing too much cleavage. If you have a shorter neck or narrow shoulders, this neckline will help elongate your body. If you’re uber-scrawny, wearing a fitted square neckline will give you the illusion of curves.

9. Strapless
As long as you’ve got a proper foundation underneath (in other words, steer clear of those hideously uncomfortable sticky bra pads), practically anyone can pull of a strapless look. They elongate the neck and make petite women look taller – plus, if you love your arms and shoulders, why not flaunt them?

10. Sweetheart Neckline
This neckline is perfect for large-busted ladies, as it accentuates your cleavage while offering considerable coverage – sayonara wardrobe malfunctions! If you have a short neck, it will help you look elongated. If you’re self-conscious about the central part of your body, then it’s best to nix this neckline from your repertoire.

11. Turtleneck
Turtlenecks are best if you have a longer neck, since they tend to make women look shorter. They can also make your head look like it’s floating if you’re not careful, so make sure to leave some room between your chin and the top of the turtleneck. If you’re small-chested or have narrow shoulders, you’ll benefit a lot from this neckline. You should avoid turtlenecks if you have a round face, large chest, or have an apple body shape.

12. V-Neck
The most versatile neckline of all, the v-neck is universally flattering: It will make you look leaner and taller, no matter your body shape. If you have a larger bust, just watch the cut: A high V might make you look saggy, and you probably won’t be able to trust the girls in a plunging V.
