Metropolitan Home, one of my favorite sources for all things cool and current (and not just ’cause I wrote for them in the 80s ), has seen the light. And guess what? It’s solar LED and energy-efficient.

Vanity Fair may be scrapping green, but the April issue of Met Home is entirely devoted to eco-friendly finds in the world of upscale urban home design, including inspirational green houses such as a 1915 Craftsman-era bungalow in Oakland, Calif. (below) described as the “ultimate urban eco-retrofit.” It achieved LEED platinum status.

      googletag.display("div-gpt-ad-1430927735854-0");
      googletag.pubads().refresh([adslot4]);
    });

Image: Matthew Millman

As always, there are helpful fabric finds, this time with new green certified textiles, such as the recycled polyester prints produced by Designtex. The issue also offers a green paint guide and a how-to for living in a prefab house (this one is graced with a loft-like communal great room that includes kitchen, living and dining area).

Image: Erik Johnson

Met Home has always had its tape measure on the pulse of new movements and the green direction is where design is increasingly headed, as more homeowners interested in saving money and energy push contractors and designers to insert solar paneling, install efficient appliances and make furniture from healthier fibers. I’m sure if you pick up the issue or check it out online you will be inspired by much of what you see.
